1. Go to Recover Your Account page on your web browser on any computer or device.

Note: Your Outlook.com password is the same as your Microsoft account password.

2. Now, enter your Microsoft email address or the alternate email address, phone number, or Skype name associated with the account, and then select next. 

3. Now, you will receive the code generated by the authenticator app and sent to your alternate email address or phone number. Choose “Use a different option” if you need to. Enter that code in the provided field.

4. Now, you may be asked to enter the last four digits of your phone number or the complete email address associated with your account, so that you can get a verification code. Enter the information and click on “Get Code.”

5. Now, look for the code on your email address or phone number. Enter the verification code you get and select Next.

6. Now, you might have to complete the other verification process if you’ve enabled two-step verification. For instance, after entering the above code, you might need to also use the authenticator app to get another code.

7. Now, enter the new password you want to use. Make sure it should be at least 8 characters. You need to re-enter the password and select next.

Note: Microsoft requires that you do not use a password you’ve used in the past.

8. Now, you will receive a notification that will confirm your password has been changed. Select “Sign in” to log in to your Microsoft Account using the new password.

Customize Outlook to Remember Your Password 

Yes, you can reset Outlook remember your password if you don't want to be prompted to enter your password every time you open an email. This will allow you to receive and send emails without typing your password each time you open Outlook.

1. To make outlook remember your email passwords, go to File >Info on your device.

2. Now, select the “Account Settings> Account Settings.

3. Now, under the “Account Settings” dialog box, choose the email address for which you want Outlook to remember the password, and then select Change.

4. Now, in the “Exchange Account Settings” dialog box, select “More Settings.”

5. Under “Microsoft Exchange,” go to the “Security” tab and clear the “Always prompt for logon credentials” checkbox.

6. Now, click on Apply to save the change and then choose Ok to close the Windows. In the Exchange Account Settings dialog box, click X to close the screen. 

7. Finally, under “Account Settings”, select Close and restart your Outlook.

How to Change Outlook Password

Step-1 Remove Viruses or Malware

How to Change Password for an Outlook Data File (.pst)

To secure your Data File (.pst) on Outlook, you can encrypt your Data File with a password.  This password is required whenever you open the Outlook Data File (.pst).

Make sure that not every email account uses an Outlook Data File (.pst) to store your email, calendar, contact, and task information. Many types of email account including Microsoft 365, Exchange accounts, Outlook.com and etc. use Offline Outlook Data Files (.ost) instead. Remember that you cannot set a password on an offline Outlook Data File (.ost).

Note: If you forget the password of your Outlook Data File (.pst), there is no way to retrieve the password.

  1. First of all, open the “File” tab and click on the “Account Settings> Account Settings.
  2. Note: if you’re using Outlook 2007, go to “File” menu, click “Data File Management.”
  3. Now, on the “Data Files” tab, click the Outlook Data Files (.pst) for which you want to change the password, and then click Settings.
  4. Click “Change Password.”  Make sure you can’t see this option if you’ve selected on Offline Outlook Data File (.ost) file. The extension of the file is listed in the Location column of the Data Files tab. You cannot set a password on an Offline Outlook Data File (.ost).
